You can use any analog phone, but, you might want some ease of use or convenience features not provided in typical phones. Other vendors offer Powertouch phones as they say pre-programmed, but, it is NOT the same phone that we offer, ask us about the difference. Here are some ideas as far as features you may want to look for. Scroll down this page to see the Talkswitch phones we sell.
Caller ID. If you plan on using caller ID, then you need a phone that works with caller id, some type of LCD display. This can be useful for identifying callers before you answer the phone.
Message Waiting Lamp. When someone leaves a voice mail message at your local extension, sometimes it is nice to be able to see an indicator on the phone that you indeed have a message. With Talkswitch, this is not required necessarily, as you will also get a stutter dial tone when you pick up your extension. Not all phones with voice mail indicators work with Talkswitch, the phones here all mention whether or not they are compatible. Some of the Talkswitch phones also can show the number of messages.
Multi-Line. A multi-line phone is not required when using Talkswitch. Talkswitch directs incoming calls from any line onto your local extension based on the setup information you provide. However, a multi-line phone can be useful in certain situations. For example, maybe you have a home office, and you want personal calls handles outside of the system. A 2 line phone can help you do that. Wire line 2 to be your personal phone line, and line 1 to be your Talkswitch extension.
SIP. Talkswitch software version 4.0 allows for local extensions to be SIP or VOIP phones. Several models and brands are automatically provisioned. Still, they are not as simple as simply plugging a wire is as with an analog phone. However, they also provide some extra features that analog phones do not have, such as call appearances. They miss some features such as hands free paging and intercom. A SIP phone sounds almost as good as an analog phone as far as audio quality.
Speakerphone. Perhaps you like the ability to talk to someone handsfree. Look for a speakerphone in this case, unless the office area is noisy.
Hands Free Paging/Intercom. Some Talkswitch phones allow hands free paging and intercom, this can be handy for some businesses.
Headset Jack. If you are in a noisy office area, or prefer headsets, look for a phone with a headset jack.
Function keys. It can be very convenient to store commonly used Talkswitch functions in memory on the phone. Sometimes, speed dial locations can be used for this. Some phones have separate function keys meant to store codes.
Scripted phones. Several of our Powertouch models, along with the Talkswitch TS-600 phone, are programmed in a programming language to work with Talkswitch. The advantage here is the phone prompts you through functions such as transferring or conference calls as opposed to knowing which buttons to hit on other phones.
