Talkswitch vs Fonality and other Asterisk Dealers. There are numerous Fonality style Asterisk dealers, you can lump them all into the same boat. There is some bad information on the Fonality web site concerning Talkswitch. Let's clear a few things up.... Talkswitch does have unlimited access to voicemail, does integrate with outlook for dialing via analog extensions, does do voicemail to email, does have telecommuter support, and can have up to 9.5 hours of voicemail. The cost of a 2 phone line, max voicemail, 8 extension system is not $3,122 as they say, but, right on our web site, can be as low as $1,612.50 with shipping included! About half of what they say. Here are some Talkswtich advantages:

  • Talkswitch starts as low as $660.25 including shipping, a lower entry point.
  • Talkswitch is not PC based, meaning, none of the troubles PCs have. There are no moving parts to break. This is a huge advantage as anyone owning a C knows.
  • Talkswitch consumes far less power and therefore UPS requirements save money
  • Talkswitch configuration software is on your pc. Fonality and the others are on their server. If their server is down, or, their internet connection is down, or, your internet connection is down, you cannot access it.
  • Talkswitch works well with IP phone AND analog phones. Analog phones are setup for Talkswitch and specific to Talkswitch, no "jury rigging" like theirs. On Talkswitch, you DO have a message waiting light on analog phones, not theirs. Analog extensions are not an option like it is on their system. Analog extensions allow you to use Polycom conference phones for your meeting room, use Outlook for dialing, hook up cordless phones, and more. No complex add-on needed. Analog phones are easier to install and maintain.
  • Talkswitch allows you to buy your own phones. Fonality makes you either buy their version of expensive Polycom phones, or, pay them for an "upgrade".
  • Analog or IP phone lines are supported on the same box with no upgrade, Fonality only has analog lines as an upgrade. Analog lines are obviously still the most reliable, and, fax works best over them.
  • Talkswitch keeps you in touch when you are out of the office with remote extension features.
  • Paying for help or an installer should be considered in the purchase price of a system. Talkswitch has free support. Fonality charges you $65 per user per year for support. Others charge different rates, and, they also make you pay for installation even though they are remote unlike us. All of that should be considered as part of the price. Talkswitch is a standalone, small, almost no heat, unobtrusive, all inclusive box that sits there and runs. 98% of our customers install and maintain their own, with no ongoing costs to them.
  • Talkswitch supports analog phone line features such as 3 way calling for remote extensions, transfer and clear, and more.
  • Talkswitch is simply cheaper, flexible, and more reliable. Talkswitch enables you to be more self reliant and do what you want to do, when you want to do it.
