The Viking Electronics C-1000B door entry control system can be hooked up in a variety of ways. The system has a lot of configurations. The C-1000B allows single line phones, or a phone system incoming line to be shared with one or 2 doorboxes (entry phones) and cameras. When used with 2 cameras, the system will switch to the active entryway when the outside access doorbox is used. It can generate a distinctive ring patterm. The idea is a visitor comes to the door, presses the button on a door entry "phone", the C-1000B either calls extension(s) or rings your phones outside of a phone system, and, with electronic door locks, you can then unlock the door for the visitor. Oddly enough, the C-1000B has a completely different use as well, it can be used as a 3 line concentrator. That is to say, a single device can be hooked to 3 incoming phone lines (also known as CO lines).
When hooked to phones outside of a phone system, or, to the incoming port of a phone system (you can share the line), the C-1000B should be used with the following door entry phones: W-1000, W-2000A, or W-3000. When the door button is pressed, it will generate a ring on your phones, or via the phone system. If you are on the phone line when a request comes in, you will hear a call waiting style tone and can hit # or double flash to put the call on hold and talk to the person at the door. Typically, you don't want to do this with a phone system as the caller would hear silence instead of any music on hold. It would also conflict with any fax being received on a line, and of course, anyone might be on the line at the time, you would have no control over who has to answer the door page.
When hooked to an extension port of a phone system, you will need a hot dialer so that when the doorbox button is pressed, the dialer would dial either an extension on your phone system, or, a group of extensions to notify you that someone needs access. In this mode, only one doorbox can be controlled instead of the normal 2. See the K-1900-5 hot dialer for use in this configuration. Also, you cannot use the W-1000, W-2000 or W-3000 in this mode. You can use the E-10, E-20A, or the new E-40 including the more weather resistant versions. |
